3D Collaboration for SolidWorks Teams: Closing the Gap
Three people need something different from the same assembly. The engineer needs the current version. The manager needs to know where it stands. The client needs to see it and say what is wrong. Most teams serve all three by emailing screenshots, and pay for it in rework.
The same model, three jobs
A design review is not one conversation. It is three, running at once, over the same geometry.
The engineer wants to know which version is current and what changed since the last one. The manager wants to know whether the part is in progress, waiting on approval, or released. The client wants to look at the thing and point at the bit that is wrong.
Serve those three needs with exported screenshots, a spreadsheet and an email thread and every one of them degrades. The engineer works from a file someone sent last week. The manager asks for status in a meeting. The client describes a problem in words, and the engineer guesses which face they meant.
What the engineer needs
Check out the file, work, check it back in. The version is written automatically, nobody else can overwrite it while it is out, and the assembly references resolve without repair.
That happens directly in SolidWorks, in the add-in, so it costs no change of habit. Open an older version when you need to compare, and roll back when something goes wrong.

What the manager needs
Status without asking for it. Every file carries its state — in progress, up for approval, released — and the history of who changed what and when sits behind it.
That is the difference between a status meeting and a glance. It also means a released file is locked against edits, so nothing reaches the shop floor by accident.
What the client needs
A link. Send a public share link and the model opens in any browser, on any machine, with no CAD license and no account to create.
They rotate the model, measure it, and leave a comment pinned to the face they mean. The comment lands where the engineer will see it, attached to the geometry rather than buried in an email thread.
That last part is what removes most of the rework. "The bracket is too close to the harness" means one thing in an email and something exact when it is pinned to the bracket.
