IZTECH Racing: Five Subteams, One Car, Two Podiums
Chassis, vehicle dynamics, powertrain, aero, electronics. Five student subteams, 49 members, and a first competition car built from scratch in SOLIDWORKS® 3D CAD. Here is how IZTECH Racing kept 20 CAD engineers on the same version, and what the team brought home.
Five subteams, one car, first season
IZTECH Racing is the Formula Student team at Izmir Institute of Technology in Turkey. In 2026 the team built its first competition car from the ground up: 49 members, five engineering subteams (Chassis and Ergonomics, Vehicle Dynamics, Powertrain, Aerodynamics, Electronics), and about 20 engineers designing in SOLIDWORKS® 3D CAD at the same time.
Every subteam's work lands on someone else's part. The chassis moves a mount and the powertrain bracket no longer fits. The aero package grows and clears nothing. With 20 people in the assembly, the car only works if everyone is on the same version of every file.
Before the season the team had no system for that at all. Sibe sponsored IZTECH Racing with a cloud CAD Document Management workspace, so the team started the season with one place for every CAD file and a version history from day one.

How the team used it
All five subteams checked their files in and out of the same workspace directly in SolidWorks. Sibe tracked every version, so a student at the workshop, in a campus lab or at home late at night opened the current assembly, not a copy from last week.

Two competitions, two podiums
The 2026 car, number 35, raced at two events.
- Formula Student Balkans, the team's first competition: 2nd of 8 teams in the Business Plan Presentation, and the Turkish flag on the podium
- Formula Student Romania: 1st of 11 teams from 7 countries in the Business Plan Presentation, plus the Most Friendly Team award


Why the file history matters at competition
A Formula Student car is judged on paper as well as on track. The Business Plan Presentation and the design judging both ask the team to explain its decisions, and a decision is easier to defend when the revision history behind it already exists. That history builds itself as the students work. Nobody reconstructs it the week before the event.

Next season
The team is already planning the 2027 car. We will be following the build.
