Published license, database, server and setup prices in one place, with sources and dates, so you can budget a PDM setup before you ask for a quote.

You can price a PDM setup line by line before you speak to a reseller. This guide collects the published numbers in one place: licenses, SQL Server, Windows Server, implementation and training. Every figure links to its source, with the date we checked it.

Prices here are list or reseller-published figures, not quotes. Your final number depends on your reseller, your IT setup and your team size.

The five costs in a server-based PDM

  • Licenses. Priced per user, with different rates for CAD users and non-CAD users such as reviewers, purchasing and production.
  • Database. Server-based PDM stores file metadata in Microsoft SQL Server. Larger setups need a paid SQL Server edition.
  • Server and operating system. A Windows server, physical or virtual, plus Windows Server licenses.
  • Implementation and training. Reseller setup, vault configuration, data migration and user training.
  • Ongoing admin. Backups, SQL and vault upgrades, user access, and remote access for engineers outside the office.

Published SOLIDWORKS PDM prices

SOLIDWORKS PDM is Dassault Systèmes' data management product for SOLIDWORKS® 3D CAD. It comes in two tiers. PDM Standard is bundled with SOLIDWORKS Professional and Premium and runs on Microsoft SQL Server Express. PDM Professional runs on SQL Server Standard or Enterprise.

Dassault Systèmes does not publish PDM list prices. The figures below come from TriMech, an authorized SOLIDWORKS reseller, for a 10-user example, in USD.

License, CAD userIncluded with SOLIDWORKS Professional or Premium$2,800 per user
License, non-CAD user$900 per user$1,600 per user

TriMech's own summary: for a typical 10-user deployment, first-year costs, including software and implementation, range from under $10,000 for PDM Standard to $60,000+ for PDM Professional or SOLIDWORKS Manage. Data migration and ERP integration are priced separately.

Questions to ask before you request a quote: is the license price perpetual or a yearly term? What is the annual subscription service price? Is SQL Server included?

Not every engineering team is ready for a PDM server

A server-based PDM fits well when a team has in-house IT, one main office, and the time to run a setup project. Many small SolidWorks teams are in a different position. Five questions help show which one you are in:

  • Who owns the server? Someone backs up the vault, patches SQL Server and runs upgrades.
  • Where do your engineers work? Remote or multi-site teams need a VPN or a replicated vault to reach files.
  • Who reviews designs? Clients, suppliers and production staff need a login, a license, or exported PDFs.
  • How soon do you need version control? A reseller project takes planning, migration and training time.
  • How will the team grow? Each new user adds a license, a CAL and training.

If most answers are "nobody", "in several places" or "people outside the company", a cloud option is worth comparing before you size a server.

How Sibe works for SolidWorks teams

FAQ

How much does a PDM system cost per year?

It depends on the tier, the number of users and whether a paid SQL Server edition is needed. TriMech, an authorized SOLIDWORKS reseller, states that for a typical 10-user deployment, first-year costs (software and implementation) range from under $10,000 for SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard to $60,000+ for SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional or SOLIDWORKS Manage (page updated 29 July 2026). Hardware and SQL Server licenses are not included in those figures.

Does a PDM server need a SQL Server license?

SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard runs on Microsoft SQL Server Express, which is free. SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional runs on SQL Server Standard or Enterprise. Microsoft lists SQL Server 2025 Standard at $989 per server plus $230 per user CAL, or $3,945 per 2-core pack.

What PDM costs are easy to miss?

Server hardware, Windows Server licenses and CALs, backup storage, remote access for engineers outside the office, data migration, and the admin hours to keep the vault running. These usually sit outside the license quote, so ask for them as separate lines.

How is cloud CAD document management priced?

Cloud tools are typically priced per user, billed monthly or annually, with hosting included. Sibe's current plans and seat prices are listed on the Sibe pricing page.
